Group Blog

 Some of my favorite commercials and films are Giecos "hump day" and Harry Potter. I think these are both ironically timeless cinematic masterpieces my group would agree with me on. I chose this class because I heard it was almost required to work well in groups. I love working in groups, and I am looking forward to this commercial filming project. We have been brainstorming a few ideas already. I hope to achieve a catchy commercial that meets the requirements and has blended transitions from this project. I choose to work with Britanique Simpson, Eden Wright, and Isabel D'Onofrio. I met Britanique and Isabel during my freshmen orientation. They were the first people I talked to in high school. we walked around together and looked at clubs. I met Eden in my Spanish class which me and Britanique had together; Britanique introduced me to her. She helped us acclimate to high school and gave us comfort in what it was like as freshmen. I believe we will work well together because we have worked in a group several times before. I decided on people I knew because I wanted to be comfortable with this project. After all, it's the first big assignment, and I am already nervous. Also, we all have different skill sets to offer, which will come as an advantage. I can offer some editing skills and would be willing to learn more to help the group. I also believe I will be good at writing scripts, as I have done a few beforehand. Britanique is good at summaries and generalization to get an idea across, so I think she'd be in charge of the treatment. Britanique would also be willing to learn how to edit with me. Isabel has the most steady hands, so I think she makes a good camerawoman. she is also good at smooth transitions which will be useful. Eden is very creative, so she'd be doing the storyboard to put the idea on paper. I think she would also be the most comfortable on camera, making her the leading actor. It makes sense why we all came together, and I think we balance each other out nicely.

Clips and Time Crunching

   Now that we’ve finished filming, it’s time to head to our tried-and-true editing app, CapCut. We’ve used this for every project, and I’d like to think we were successful. The first step is adding the clips into the software in order. Despite how simple this may seem, searching through all the videos is difficult. We have to make sure it’s the right clip and place it in the right spot regarding the order. Then it’s time to eliminate time. That’s the most heartbreaking part. You spend hours acting, getting lines, and making sure your costume is correct. Only to have to cut scenes because they take us over time.   When we put the original clips together, we had 7 minutes and 42 seconds. A lot of time is extra. We start filming slightly before and slightly after to make we catch everything. So that cuts down a good chunk of time.   Camera angles High angle shots are used to show what is being looked down at as powerless and weak. Close up shots are included to focus on the character’s reaction to a scene. Tracking shots are used to show a character being watched or followed. Tilted angels often are added to add dramatic tension in a scene. Extreme long shots are used to show the setting and overall atmosphere of the place. Low angle shots are used to show a character having power and strength. Point of view shots are included to capture the audience’s attention with what the character is seeing.
